BANGALORE: Customers are forming a beeline at the city’s malls to grab those coveted garments for the super sales on designer labels. In every nook and corner there are displays with huge advertisements and decorations.

While the increased availability is a major plus, the biggest benefit for a customer is the low price tag in a high-end range. In all malls including Lifestyle, Forum, Eva and Garuda, designer apparel and accessories are on are on sale with the lowest price tags.

The owners have found an innovative way to lure the customers with the catchline ‘upto 50 percent discount’. According to Senthil Kumar, assistant manager, the discount offer is taking a hit. ‘‘There has been a season change and we want to clear the stocks. There is 10 per cent discount on the new ones and a 50 per cent discount on the old stock that includes from apparel to jewellery and watches to shoes. It’s lucre that does the talking,’’ he said.

Customers are thronging the malls, especially on the weekends. They belong to the middle class or upper middle class and are from all age groups. Garments are flying off the racks. Branded outfits adorning mannequins are changed to attract customers.

Part of a hip crowd, Vikas who came to shop for his girlfriend, said ‘‘I am looking for an outfit that will add volume to your style.’’ The latest in fashion for the youngsters are the tight boot cut jeans, short skirts and the cotton sleeveless tops.

Vasundhara has come to pick up some ‘normal’ tops. ‘‘I always wait for this discount to come up as I can get hold of some branded stuff at a comparatively cheaper rate,’’ she says. For men it is cargo and denim trousers along with the cotton short-length shirts. Kids have a separate section with all types of costumes in funky colours.

Planet Sports has some cool stuff for sports lovers. The discounts range from 25 to 45 per cent for both footwear and apparel. The brands include Speedo, Puma, Nike, and Reebok. You get everything including running shorts, cycling shorts, swimming suits and track suits.

With discounts there are some special offers too. In Globus you get a gift voucher for the diamond section if you make purchase above Rs.1000. There is also a discount from HDFC of 10 per cent if you have a HDFC credit or debit card. There are also offers on the purchase of goods above 1,500 and 2,000 in Bangalore Central.

Both the buyers and owners benefit from the discounts, which will last till the end of the month. ‘‘We are getting excellent feedback from the customers as they are getting garments much below the market price on 90 per cent of our stocks’’, Kumar said.
