KSRTC Mysore Rd terminal to open in August

BANGALORE: Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation’s (KSRTC) modern three-tier bus terminal at Byatrayanpura on Mysore Road which was slated for opening by the end of March 2005 and was then delayed, will open in the first week of August.
According to the KSRTC engineering department, the terminal works were on schedule though work was recently affected by the sand shortage.
Finishing works such as fire protection systems, platform walks, section glazing, toilets are complete and only a bit of concrete finishing is remaining. “This will be done by the end of July and the opening will be held in the first week of August,” said Project Manager Rangaraj.
Despite the delay all care was being taken to avoid cost escalation. The project costs an estimated Rs. 19.68 crore. This inter-state bus terminus with commercial and recreational facilities is being built to decongest Kempe Gowda Central Bus Station which is currently cramped.
Arrival, departure and parking of all buses going southward to places like Mysore, Mercara, Ooty, Kerala, will be gradually shifted to the new terminal thereby creating more space for other buses at the central bus stand, he added.
Initially 600 buses will be shifted to the new terminal including Mysore bound non-stop ones in February 2005. This terminal built on nine acres of land has three levels with the maintenance depot at the bottom, arrival and departure at the second level and the city feeder service bus bay at the uppermost level which is aligned with the exit toward Mysore Road. The terminal is built to handle 1,700 buses per day.
When fully operational, the terminal will have a 70-car and 200 two-wheeler capacity parking lot, pedestrian subway, Yatri Nivas restaurant, shower rooms, commercial complex, large concourse & waiting lounge, apart from the other essential amenities. The pedestrian subway ensures that people’s lives are not endangered by buses moving within the terminal.
