CM promises larger green belt for city

Mr Dharam Singh said that the prime minister has been urged to extend assistance in developing Bangalore’s infrastructure.



Chief Minister N Dharam Singh on Friday called upon the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike to ensure that the quality of its works was visible to the public eye. The tax paying public in the city who wonder on where their money went, should find it in the quality of works-be it roads or bridges or flyovers, he said.

Participating in Kempegowda Day celebrations on Friday evening, the chief minister said that the State government had appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to extend to Bangalore Central assistance for infrastructure development, similar to the infrastructure development fund promised to Mumbai.

The pressure on the fast growing City are many he noted and observed that in the last few years heads of State from 37 countries had visited Bangalore on work related to Information Technology and Bio-technology sectors alone.


Industrial growth has shrunk Bangalore’s green belt, but efforts will be made to rectify it, the chief minister said. In that direction the revised CDP for the city will soon be placed before the public for comments and suggestions, he said.

BMP Commissioner Jothiramalingam giving a brief report of the Palike on the occasion, said that the National College flyover in Basavanagudi, the Modi Circle grade separator and underpass at Rajajinagar will be completed by this month end.

The two-day Kempegowda Day celebrations culminated with cultural programmes and presentation of Kempegowda awards. The Bangalore City Crime Branch (CCB) and 24 others received awards from chief minister Dharam Singh.
