BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will declare the Byatarayanapura Satellite Bus terminus open to the public in June.

Work on the bus complex is nearly finished. The terminal has separate levels for KSRTC buses, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses and parking.

“Only a few finishing touches remain. We hope to make the terminus operational by June,” KSRTC executive engineer TK Palanethra Naik, the on-site in charge of the project said.

The terminal is designed to decongest the Kempegowda bus terminus in the city centre. It would also cater to all KSRTC buses going towards Mysore, Kodagu, Kerala and some parts of Tamil Nadu.

Commuters have to reach there by taking BMTC buses. The bus stand is similar to Kempegowda bus terminus where the BMTC and KSRTC stands are adjacent to each other and connected by a foot overbridge and a subway. “The special feature of this terminus is that the pedestrian and vehicular movements are completely segregated,” Naik said.

The terminus has a separate entrance for BMTC buses, for private vehicles and for KSRTC buses. The inter-state bus station has 20 departure bays, seven dedicated arrival bays and four separate bays for premium services such as Rajahamsa and Volvo. It also has separate waiting lounges for deluxe and non-deluxe passengers.

Lodging facilities are available for passengers and KSRTC drivers and conductors at the two-floor building comprising Yatri Nivas and employee rooms. Toilets and drinking water tanks will be installed at convenient locations. The basement parking has a capacity of 75 cars and 200 two-wheelers, with a staircase directly leading to the KSRTC platforms. Provision has also been made for auto and taxi stands.

In addition to the BMTC and KSRTC bus stands, there will also be a commercial complex within the terminus. The 45,000 square feet complex with three floors and its own parking space will be rented out to private companies.
