BANGALORE: Rain brought smiles on the faces of many in city, who were pooped by the scorching sun. But there were sorrows too, particularly for the residents of Koramangala.

With just a night’s downpour, the condition of the roads in the 1st Block of Koramangala turned from bad to worse. The roads, which had been dug up have become slushy. On the other roads enormous pot-holes are filled with stagnating rain water.

There is a splash of water every time a car or a heavy vehicle zooms past the road. While two-wheelers try their best to dodge the potholes and slushy areas, it’s an ordeal for the pedestrians, who trudge through the filth mixed with loose soil outside their homes.

These roads were dug-up in August 2003, for laying underground sewage pipes to solve the sewage problems that Ejipura and it’s surrounding areas were facing. Little did residents know that solving one problem would create another.

The contractors finished the laying of the pipes and waited for a year to ensure that everything went as expected.

The residents then decided to wait for the BWSSB to lay lateral pipes before the roads are relaid. But their wait turned out to be a nightmare.

Jakkasandra Area faces the biggest problem as drinking water often gets mixed up with sewage water. ‘‘It is a pity to note that despite numerous complaints filed by the residents, no action is yet to be taken,’’ a resident said. ‘‘We need an alternative,’’ he said.

Though the residents cling on to the hope that the civic bodies will attend to their problems at once, sources say development works will not resume as the monsoon has set in.
