Hi-tech route maps at city BMTC bus stations soon

VIJAY TIMES NEWS

Bangalore: Having implemented its pilot project at all its hi-tech bus shelters, BMTC mandarins are now set to replicate its success by displaying “You are here” route maps at all major bus stands in the City.

Chief traffic manager (commercial) Vishwanath told Vijay Times that 100 route maps denoting the area , bus schedules and route numbers have already been prepared. "These route maps mounted on back lit boards will be installed at 50 more shelters across the city shortly after which we are planning to put up more detailed maps at Kempegowda, Shanthinagar and Shivajinagar bus stands on a pilot basis. It will be later extended to bus stands in Jayanagar, Yeshwantpur and Domlur for which we are looking out for sponsors,'' explains Vishwanath.

While the maps presently put up at bus shelters have cost BMTC Rs 1,200 each and provided by the city based Integra Systems and Services. Those in the pipeline which it proposes to install at bus stands would cost Rs 8,000 each. This being an expensive proposition , the public transport company is banking on sponsors. ''But if we don’t get any we will fund the project ourselves" he adds.

The new route maps aim to be commuter friendly by providing relevant details and information at bus shelters and stations.
