Shivani, a young 15 year old tenth grade student from Frank Anthony Public School felt that trees should not be cut down at all. “However, one has to consider both sides of the coin as these trees are being cut to help with the flow of traffic. But by cutting them down, pollution levels in the City will rise and we will all asphixiate ourselves as they are the lungs of the City.”

Dharmesh, an engineer with Wipro, has lived in the City for the last two years and hails from Tamil Nadu. He has this to say, “Well I guess, to broaden the roads trees must be cut, but space must be left to grow some more,” he felt. “It’s a catch 22 situation and so trees must be grown in the open areas to compensate for those cut down to make the roads wider.”

Sushma Konappa, who is 20 years old, is a student doing her engineering in Info Science in MVIT. “If we cut down trees I will be sweaty like this,” she said pointing to her face. “We will have no rains, the greenery will dissapear and pollution levels will definitely affect us. Most of all the natural beauty and the oxygen levels in the City will be depleted.”

Meena Murthy, a 25-year-old software engineer needed no prompting and was very verbal in her horror at the cutting down of trees. “In Basavanagudi where there is no traffic and no need at all for a fly -over they have chopped down all the trees. Even near Maharani’s College they cut the trees for a stupid by-pass,” she says very annoyed.
