Janagraha to anchor CIVIL locally

The pilot programme on minimising errors in electoral rolls launched at Rajajinagar Assembly constituency on Friday is part of the Vote India- National Campaign for Political Reforms. The programme is termed CIVIL (Citizens Initiative on Voters’ Identification List).

Bangalore-based people’s movement Janaagraha is anchoring the programme locally. BMP Ward No 14 (Nagapur) in Rajajinagar is in the first leg of the programme.

Chief Election Commissioner T S Krishnamurthy inaugurated the programme by verifying the rolls at two houses on Friday morning. (House Nos 102 and 108 on 20th ‘A’ Main Road, I Block, Rajajinagar)

Janaagraha has roped in volunteers from across the civil society especially college students for the programme. About 100 students from BNES PU College, Mahalakshmi Layout are in exercise at Ward 14. Students are especially trained for the exercise. Two student volunteers are allotted for each polling station. On their door-to-door visits the they are accompanied by a revenue official and a community leader.

End of reach day, the records are submitted to the a community managed control room.

No time frame has been set for the completion of the exercise.

According to Janaagraha the target is ‘a-ward-a-week’. Ward No 14 has 29 polling stations.
