CM talks tough, demands quality work
Deccan Herald

After a spot inspection, the CM made it clear that the on-going projects must be completed before the initiation of Metro rail.

Chief Minister Dharam Singh commented on the poor quality of work in some of the ongoing infrastructure projects in Bangalore, especially the Rajajinagar entrance grade separator on Friday.

The chief minister, who undertook a spot inspection tour of the various projects, directed the respective civic bodies in charge of these projects to ensure that quality standards are maintained.

The public have often complained about the quality of Rajajinagar grade separator — especially the vibrations felt on its bridge, the chief minister said and questioned the delay in the completion of the project.

There is ‘no visible progress’ in the work, he said and took up the matter with the contractor who was present on location.

BMP Technical advisor Jayaprasad however explained that all arched RCC bridges do vibrate and it actually spells out their technical soundness.

At Madhavanagar Railway Under Bridge site, where it was pointed out to the chief minister that a commercial building adjacent to the site has proven to be a bottleneck, he directed the BMP to demolish the structure if need be and ensure that the project is not delayed further.

The chief minister was accompanied by Mayor R Narayanaswamy, Bangalore South MP Ananthkumar, many city legislators and many corporators.

Before Metro

Speaking to media persons, the chief minister said joint inspection by elected representatives and officials was to ensure that the ongoing projects are speeded up and completed before rains set in. Also, these projects must be completed before the Metro rail work is initiated, he said.

Other projects that were inspected by the chief minister are Madhavanagar RUB, Anand Rao Circle Flyover, Modi Road-Chord Road Underpass, National College Flyover, HSR Layout CA Site and the BDA’s pre-cast blocks for flyovers making site at the old Central Jail compound.

The National College Flyover in Basavanagudi will be completed by May, the Madhavanagar RUB by June end and Modi Road-Chord Road Underpass by mid-August, officials of the civic agencies in charge of these infrastructure projects said.

CM’s check other areas also

Chief Minister N Dharam Singh, who has undertaken a spot inspection tour of various projects in Bangalore and directed the respective civic bodies to ensure the maintenance of quality standards, should extend his scope of inspection to some areas on the outskirts of the City. Even a leisurely walk along the entire length of the pavement from the Shivajinagar, Tannery Road, Muslim Colony and Mother Diary Circle to the industrial area adjacent to the Doddaballapur road would give him an idea about the poor conditions in these parts. The CM should turn his attention from the infrastructure requirements of the giant infotech companies towards the state of the infrastructure in the far-flung residential areas like Yelahanka New Town.
