Campaign against tree felling

Campaign against tree felling

Deccan Herald

Close on the heels of the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP)’s decision to widen 45 roads in Bangalore, a group of people under the aegis of Bangalore Environment Support Group has decided to launch a campaign to ensure that trees are not cut down during the road-widening process.

According to a press release, the group plans to hold public hearings, mobilise neighbourhoods, and conduct surveys as part of its campaign.

The group has taken exception to the decision of the traffic department to hack 700 trees that come in the way of road widening. “It is hoped that with some reasoning and persuasion the traffic department can be made to take a detour”, a press release from the group said.
