HC upholds closure of Devaraj Urs Road

Plea on road quashed

Deccan Herald

The Bangalore City Police have won a legal battle against the public as the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday upheld closure of a stretch of Devaraj Urs Road, passing between Vidhana Soudha and its new South Block (Vikasa Soudha) for public use.

While dismissing several public interest litigations against the closure of the road, the High Court has held that the police have taken a right decision in view of the security threats to the two buildings due to the increase in movement of vehicles on Devaraj Urs Road between Basaweshwara circle and S Gopala Gowda circle.

The division bench comprising Chief Justice Nauvdip Kumar Sodhi and Justice B Padmaraj further observed that “the police are better judges of the security of the area around these two prominent buildings”.
