BANGALORE: Preparatory work for the Metro Rail Project here is on and financial assistance from the Centre for the project has already been discussed in detail with the Planning Commission chairman and Finance Minister, Chief Minister Dharam Singh said on Thursday.

Replying to a question, he said of the total project cost of Rs 5605 crore, Rs 62.77 crore has been provided in the current financial year 2004-2005 under the loan head.

Identification of utilities and their shifting and formulation of land acquisition proposal are already under progress. The project is scheduled to be completed in five years, he said.

To another question, Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said toddy sale has been banned in various districts including Bangalore (Urban), Bangalore (Rural), Bagalkot, Bidar, Bellary and Bijapur since 1990 and in Raichur and Gulbarga since August 1, 2004.
