Deccan Herald

The Lake Development Authority has invited the public, government and non-government organisations, corporate bodies from the public and private sector to participate in protection and conservation of the lakes by adopting them.

Speaking to Deccan Herald on Wednesday CEO, Lake Development Authority, B K Singh said the Authority was striving to protect, preserve and rejuvenate the urban water bodies that can preserve the eco-system. In order to encourage the conservation of lakes, the Authority has hit upon the idea of involving the public, he said. Rejuvenation of a small lake would cost Rs 8 to 10 lakh, he said.

Karnataka has over 32,000 tanks which are treated as wet lands and these can be entrusted to private firms for rejuvenation.
