Bangalore: Citizens may get saplings of fruit-bearing, ornamental and flowering plants from the BCC at concessional rates. This has been mooted by mayor R. Narayanswamy who has gone public saying he does not want to receive garlands or bouquets at functions but prefers saplings. Speaking after planting special varieties of champaka trees presented by the Udayabhanu Kalasangha in Bangalore recently, he reiterated that the greenery of the city could be enhanced only by citizens’ active participation in BCC efforts. “The BCC will plant 50,000 saplings in a year,’’ he said.

To avail the saplings at concessional rates, citizens can register their names at any of the horticulture departments of the BCC till Februaryend and the saplings would be distributed in August. Contact 22975748 (south), 22975545 (east) and 22975626 (west) for details.
