Annual flower show: Public blooms to flock Lalbarg

BANGALORE: It’s an unusually sunny morning in the city and the traffic snarls are at peak. Just as you might begin to question your hasty decision on an untimely outing, it’s time to change your mind.

Lalbagh must have been a great place for your morning jogs but unbeatable are its annual flower shows. A Rs. 15 entry ticket transports you to an altogether relieving experience. Walk on the concrete path flanked on either side by upright majestic sunflowers looking their ever-so-disciplined best and feel the breeze heavy with the fragrance of flowers from every nook of the garden.

Soon you’ll enter the Glass House and along with your weariness will vanish your regrets too.

Neatly laid marigold beds lined by tiny green plants welcome you in and for the next few hours the sights and colours don’t fail to shake the aesthetic senses alive. Surrounded by bright red bottle brushes and deep yellow cannas the Glass House is a don’t-miss visit for both Bangaloreans and tourists.

The tiny purple and white anginolias standing delicately above the rare shades of antirrhinums form an attractive corner while bunches of celosias in dark riotous shades occupy a large portion of the exhibits.

“It’s a wonderful experience. We get to see all the rare flowers that one usually can’t maintain at home here. All under one roof and we never miss the flower show,” says Nandini.

White and purple asters, pretty pinks, colourful zinnias, variety of verbenas, petunias and king sized chrysanthemums form the radiating arms of a wheel shaped arrangement at the centre of the Glass House which provided an almost studio background for photography enthusiasts as well as tourists.

Old couples walked quietly through the beds in secret admiration while little kids ran by. Newly weds posed against the flowery backdrop and college students exclaimed in awe.

“This is a great stress buster. Just walk around looking at the flowers. Doesn’t matter even if you are alone. You feel so relieved when you step out,” says Kavya, a young office goer.

Dwarf roses, miniature ones and ordinary roses form a motley of colours. Apart from the flowers, which undoubtedly are the attraction, several stalls selling organic manure, seeds, fruit plants, pottery, ceramics, traditional medicines, Aromas for therapy, bonsais, cactii etc also are worth checking out.
