Police claim one-ways are a success

Rule passes test, say police
Times of India

Bangalore: The new one-way rule on Richmond Road, Residency Road and surrounding areas passed the first acid test on Monday, with traffic moving smoothly.

There were fewer traffic jams compared to the problems the traffic police had to face in handling the system on Saturday.
There were, however, minor hiccups leading to traffic piling up on Richmond Road near the flyover in the morning.
But, senior police officers who were monitoring the situation made the necessary modifications and rectified problems.

Residency Road, between the flyover and Cash Pharmacy junction, virtually became a freeway for zipping motorists. Pedestrians were seen struggling to cross roads which had become oneways.

The surface of the two roads, uneven after road dividers and traffic islands were removed, caused some non-fatal accidents, and disturbed the flow of traffic.

Road engineering works will begin once we get proper feedback and the one-way system becomes successful, police said.
The traffic police held a stocktaking meeting at the office of DCP, Traffic (East) M.A. Saleem on Monday evening, and decided to divert the movement of passenger vehicles on Hosur Road, which is a two-way and overcrowded.

A large number of vehicles coming from southern parts of the city via Hosur Road are the latest concern of the police, who are finding it difficult to manage them.
