A few suggestions on the flyover one-ways

One way traffic has been introduced on Richmond and Residency Roads since last Saturday. The police claim that it is a success. The flow is better, since we do not face on-coming traffic. What is glaringly obvious is that it is high time the cops became tough with traffic offenders. These two roads are pretty wide, even by international standards. However, public indiscipline still creates chaos, where a little patience from drivers and orderliness would solve most if not all problems of Bangalore traffic. Lane system, strictly implemented, would do wonders. Is it so difficult to book a few offenders daily to send a tough signal to all?

The Richmond road flyover has been made two way, with a bewildering cross-over at the top, to allow traffic from KH Road (Double road) to curve left towards Residency road and for Richmond road traffic to curve right towards Mission road!! (The cross-over is a better option than the earlier idea to make the narrow wing of the flyover dropping down to Double road as a two way....) This crossover necessitates cops manning the mid-point to control the flow. Works okay, so far, but what beats me is how the cops cannot see the simpler solution which stares everyone in the face. Just reverse the one-ways on Richmond and Residency road, leaving the entry & exit on the flyover as it is. That will avoid this crazy cross-over and resulting delay (not to mention what will happen once the cops move away).

Traffic will enter the flyover from Residency road and move towards Mission Road; traffic will enter the flyover from Double road and move towards Richmond in the opposite direction. Traffic on Richmond road will move one-way towards the airport; traffic on Residency road will move one-way towards Richmond circle / flyover....

A divider built on the flyover, separating the flow from Residency road to Mission road and Double road to Richmond road will automatically regulate the traffic..... flow on intermediate and connecting roads to be aligned accordingly.....simple solution which evades our top traffic cops???

The only reason I can imagine, is that they thought of this crossover at the last minute. Now to reverse the flows in the two major arteries would mean a lot of work. Typical case of not looking before they leaped.
