Magicians cast spell on Habba day three

Magicians cast spell on Habba day three

Though most magicians performed at the stages erected near Bal Bhavan, several of them went around visiting hospitals to entertain patients late Tuesday morning.

Magic was literally in the air on Tuesday with about a dozen magicians putting up their acts in various places in the city.

Magicians from different parts of the country converged to display their skills to an enthusiastic crowd in front of Bal Bhavan in Cubbon Park. People were levitated, fire converted into coloured paper, cut ropes mysteriously became whole, even as the audience, a significant part of whom were adults, was magically transported into their childhood. The onlookers were actually seen running from stage to stage in their eagerness to get a ringside view. Children parked themselves on their fathers’ shoulders. In fact, one of the reasons why magic is fading away from popularity is an unwillingness on adults’ part to admit the child in them, says prominent magician and actor K S Ramesh.

“It is common in shows, he says, to have parents, who had been enjoying themselves for hours, looking sheepishly around after the lights come on, hoping that they are not seen at a magic show,” Mr Ramesh said.

Following the end of the event in Cubbon Park, the magicians staged a surprise appearance on Artistes’ Walkway on M G Road, to the huge delight of people gathered there.

The only other thing happening there that proved a big hit was the tarot stall, which saw people waiting for close to an hour to have their futures read.
Chand Pasha, Hashim, Yona “Charlie Chaplain”, Sarang, Kumar Kalathil and Ali were among the magicians.

Elsewhere, Prince Edward continued to stare down mutely at the rock show being held at his feet. Farenheit and Midrange were the two bands that performed. The former played a few own compositions, besides covers from Deep Purple and Iron Maiden (‘The Trooper’). Midrange performed music from The Doors, The Eagles and Guns ‘n’ Roses, among others.
