NEW DELHI, DEC 10: Several Bangalore-based software companies including Infosys and Wipro have threatened to migrate to other states blaming the city’s poor infrastructure and increasing pressure from the land mafias for the move.

A senior Karnataka state government official told FE that Infosys chief NR Narayanamurthy had recently written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, complaining that poor infrastructural facilities, increasing pressure of the land mafia and indifferent attitude of the government machinery were hindering development of the garden city.

Wipro chief Ajim Premji, Infosys CEO Nandan Nilekani and several other IT entrepreneurs have echoed the same views and have threatened to wind up their businesses in the state.

The sources pointed out that Mr Premji had visited Greater Noida last week to survey the land and facilities available there, as a possible alternative site for basing his business.

Mr Narayanamurthy also referred to the serious concern of the German company which had been awarded the contract of Devanahalli international airport and held increasing pressure from land mafias responsible for the delay in the implementation of the airport project.

Upset over the adverse publicity in the state capital, chief minister Dharam Singh, accompanied by over a dozen senior officials, rushed to Delhi on Thursday and offered olive branch to the agitated industrialists.
