Residency, Richmond Roads to turn one-way from Dec 1

Six major roads to be one-ways from Dec 1
The changes are being effected to ensure smooth traffic in central Bangalore, a release says.

Six roads including Residency Road and Richmond Road in the City will be made one-ways from December 1.

The changes are being effected with a view to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the central parts of the City, according to a press release issued by the Bangalore City Police Commissioner’s office on Monday.

The changes are as follows;

* Residency Road: Vehicles will be allowed to move from Richmond Circle to Mayo Hall Junction and not in the reverse direction. Vehicles coming from Trinity Circle side on M G Road and going towards Richmond Circle should take left turn at Mayo Hall Junction - enter Commissariat Road - reach Magrath Road Junction - take a left turn on Magrath Road - move in front of Hosmat Hospital - take a right turn - reach D’Souza Circle - join Richmond Road and reach Richmond Circle.

* Richmond Road: Vehicles will be allowed from D’Souza Circle to Richmond Circle and not in the reverse direction. Vehicles will have to pass through Residency Road to reach Mayo Hall Junction.

* Magrath Road: Vehicles will be allowed from Shoppers’ Stop to Brigade Road and not in the reverse direction. Vehicles moving on Residency Road are allowed to take a right turn at the Mayo Hall Junction to get on to Magrath Road.

* Wood Street: Traffic flow will be from Brigade Road side to Mother Teresa Circle.

* Campbell Road: The existing one-way has been reversed. Vehicles coming from Hosur Main Road will be allowed to enter Campbell Road to reach Mother Teresa Road - St Philomena’s Hospital - and to join D’Souza Circle.

* Museum Road: Vehicles will be allowed to move from School Junction to Ashirvadam Circle and not in the reverse direction.

* Relocation of bus stops: With Residency Road being made a one-way, the BMTC bus stops on the Road will also be relocated. The changes are; The bus stop at Mayo Hall will be shifted to Commissariat Road, the one in front of St Joseph’s College will be shifted to Vellara Junction on Richmond Road and the one in front of Bishop Cotton High School will be relocated near Baldwin Girl’s School on Richmond Road.

* Changes in the bus routes are:

- Buses coming from Trinity Circle side should take a left turn at Mayo Hall Junction - enter Commissariat Road - Richmond Road - Richmond Circle.

- Buses going towards Hoskote-Kolar side should move on Residency Road - take a right at Mayo Hall Junction - Commissariat Road - Hosmat Junction - take left - Richmond Road - Trinity Circle - Kensington Road - Old Madras Road.

- Vehicles moving from Residency Road towards Airport Road should take a right turn at Mayo Hall Junction - Commissariat Road - left turn - Magrath Road - Hosmat Junction - Lower Agaram Road - Airport Road.

- Vehicles moving from Hosur Road towards Airport Road should take a right turn near Johnson Market - Campbell Road - D’Souza Circle - Richmond Road - Lower Agaram Road - Airport Road.

Richmond Circle flyover to be two-way

The Richmond Circle flyover will be converted into a two-way from December 1.
The changes that will be effected are as follows;

The existing down ramp on Richmond Road will be converted into an up-ramp and as result, light motor vehicles coming from Shoolay Circle on Richmond Road will be allowed to ascend the ramp and get down on K H Road side (Double Road).

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East -Traffic) M A Saleem said tubular cones will be installed on K H Road side ramp to facilitate two-way traffic flow.

Heavy vehicles will have to move under the flyover to reach K H Road, he said. Vehicles coming from K H Road and Mission Road side will only be allowed to move towards Residency Road through the existing down ramp.
