Poor amenities: HAL voters to stay off
Life in HAL III stage has become hell for the residents due to poor facilities.

Fed up with the lackadaisical attitude of Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) in responding to their civic problems, residents of HAL III Stage extension have decided to boycott the byelections for their ward corporator scheduled to be held on October 17.

HAL III stage extension is a BDA layout, which is one of the lowlying areas in the City. The entire area gets submerged in water whenever it rains. “Though the area came under BMP jurisdiction several years ago, neither the elected representatives nor BMP officials have taken any action to solve this problem,” the association members complained.

Besides, the roads get clogged with rainwater making it impossible for residents to move about safely. In fact, there are no motarable roads in most parts of HAL III stage extension, the members said.

The area witnessed flooding again on Thursday evening due to heavy rain. “We have submitted many representations to ward corporators to look into the problem, but to no avail. Therefore, the association members -- around 300 families -- have resolved not to cast our votes,” they explained. Meanwhile, candidates in the fray have taken up brisk campaigning in the Airport and Hombe Gowda Nagar ward on the last day of campaign on Friday.

In the BJP camp, City MLAs like Katta Subramanya Naidu, Nirmal Kumar Surana, Raghu and others took out door-to-door campaign. For the Congress, City Congress President Ramalinga Reddy spearheaded the campaign for their party candidate.
