Bangalore North, the next IT hub?
The State's IT Department is all set to get some IT majors to come to this part of the city. Another ‘IT Corridor’ seems to be on the cards.

The planned six-lane expressway beginning from Minsk Square till the proposed international airport, the Arkavati Layout apart from other residential localities, relatively less-congested connectivity, pleasant environs… The stage is set for Bangalore North to play host to IT development.

M K Shankaralinge Gowda, Secretary, Department of IT, Government of Karnataka, is keen on developing another IT belt in this region. "Bangalore North is an ideal zone for non-polluting industries", he says. With the international airport in place, the proposed Peripheral Ring Road, and good civic amenities, the IT Department has plans to develop an IT segment here. "We will provide land, power and water to any IT enterprise looking for a base here. In fact, a large IT organisation has already bought around 20 acres near BEL for a design centre", he says.

An ample stock of good housing and availability of land for IT campuses make this location suitable for the next IT-led development in the city. "Also, IT firms need air connectivity. Many economical airline companies will be based here with the new airport. This is another incentive for them to locate in this region", he adds.
Another key development that promises to encourage the IT segment here is the proposal to push the green belt limits further away. This will make non-polluting commercial and residential development possible in many localities in the north, according to the IT Secretary.

"I plan to speak to IT majors during the Bangalore-IT.com to market Bangalore North as a potential area to move into", says Shankaralinge Gowda. Concerned about planned development, he says, "the IT Department has to guide growth and plan IT hubs across the city. Once some firms move into a location, others will follow. I have held discussions with many builders and 15 million sqft of commercial spaces is being developed in this region".
The combination of infrastructure, availability of land, and connectivity are good selling points for the IT Department. Some firms beginning to move in is an indication that the region is catching the eye of those looking for a base in the city.
