BWSSB and BMP authorities are back at it again. Work on the flyover opposite to the National College in Basavangudi, has come to a standstill due to a sewage chamber which has come in the way of building a retaining wall (which is only a part of the entire flyover).

The slow progress of work has made life miserable for residents and shop-keepers in the area. Getting by the area is now nearly impossible. Road blocks and loss of business to shopkeepers are some of the problems faced by those living around. Repeated requests and complaints from residents have fallen on deaf ears. The authorities continue to reel out excuses for the delay. Suresh H Makhija, who runs a photo studio in opposite the flyover says he has lost more than 50 per cent of his business during the last few months.

“If work is being hampered because of a sewage chamber why can’t it be removed. Authorities simply inspect the place but do nothing about the problem. We can’t even cross over to the other side, the path is so uneven,” said Makhija.
When Deccan Herald contacted the Chief Engineer BWSSB Mr K R Narayan Iyengar he said, “if the sewage chamber is situated between the retaining wall and the footpath we won’t remove it. We haven’t received any such complaints and are not aware of such a problem. We recently inspected the place but found no problem. If there is something we will attend to it,” said Mr Iyengar.

BMP Executive Engineer and Engineer In-charge of construction work of the flyover Mr K Puttanarasappa claims that they have already written to the BWSSB requesting them to shift the sewage chamber to another place.

“The replacement work will be done in another 15 days,” said Puttanarasappa.
