Traffic jam on new flyover on very first day

Traffic held up for nearly 90 minutes on new flyover

BANGALORE, SEPT. 16. The new flyover at Dairy Circle witnessed a heavy traffic jam for nearly 90 minutes on Thursday. Private vehicles and buses on their way from the Madivala-side were stranded on the flyover. Those who thought they would reach their offices faster were disappointed. Some even cursed the city planners and wondered whether there was anything wrong with the flyover.

But the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic, East), M.A. Saleem, told The Hindu there was nothing wrong with the structure. "The vehicles coming from the Madivala Check-post side are coming too fast and getting stuck (on the flyover," he said. The traffic police were studying the problem and looking for solutions. One of the right turns provided near the flyover was contributing to the problem. Those who were using different routes all these days had suddenly rushed towards the new flyover, he said.

Mr. Saleem said the police would intervene effectively and solve the problem by Saturday. He said the traffic police had anticipated the problem. "This had happened at the Central Silk Board flyover also," he said.

The traffic flow approaching the flyover from the Wilson Garden side was smooth.
