BANGALORE, SEPT. 9. Over 12 lakh residents in the north-western parts of the city can soon relax at a bio-diversity park being developed by the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) in Jalahalli.

This JP bio-diversity park will have various species of plants from all parts of the State as well as select exotic and aquatic species. Work on the second phase of the 33.6-hectare park is scheduled for completion early next month.

And, people can start using the jogging track, four water bodies on a 9.6-hectare area and also enjoy the landscaping from October 11, the Opposition leader in the BMP Council and Jalahalli corporator, B.R. Nanjundappa, has said.

After a tour of the park along with presspersons on Thursday, Mr. Nanjundappa said the park was being developed at a cost of over Rs. 9 crores, and Rs. 5.35 crores had been released in this budget.

`Another lalbagh'

"This park will be another Lalbagh for the city. It will have a nature centre, an exhibition plaza, an amphitheatre, a jogging track, lawns, a nursery, four water bodies with an island for birds, a sewage treatment plant, a play area for children, seating arrangements and toilets," he said and pointed out that the focus was to make the park a tourist destination.

"The park is being designed to achieve maximum biodiversity. Over a period of time, it is sure to become a vital and meaningful green space," Mr. Nanjundappa said.

He said he would get Rs. 1 crore sanctioned in the next budget for a musical fountain in the park.
