More buses mean more chaos

The BMTC which has done quite an admirable turnaround and pioneered many moves like GPS tracking sytems and handheld digital ticket vending machines now wants to do its bit to solve's Bangalore's public transport problem. What is needed is a MASS RAPID transit system to ease some of the woes of transport in Bangalore. The objective is to transfer a mass of people, quickly and ease congestion on the roads. What the BMTC proposes to do is introduce a whopping 3000 buses instead. Buses are neither rapid nor mass modes of transit. And instead of easing, they add to the congestion on the roads. There simply is no place on Bangalore's roads for any more buses. And BMTC's bus drivers are an extremely indisciplined lot (of course, no different from every other kind on Bangalore's roads) who drive rashly and violate every rule in the book. BMTC's move will only add to the problem instead of solving it. I seriously hope this move is reconsidered.
