Bangalore, Jan 3, DH News Service:

Union Minister of State for Railways, K H Muniyappa, assured that trains from Yeshwantpur to both Devanahalli and Anekal will begin operations in March.

He was replying to a suggestion put forth by MP Ananth Kumar during a media briefing organised at Yeshwantpur railway station on Sunday after the ‘Duronto Express’ was launched. The MP had called for providing suburban services within the City on the lines of that in place in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. Without specifying a date or the number of runs Muniyappa said, “Railways is conducting studies and analysing all possibilities in this direction. Before the end of March, it will start running,” he reiterated.

The Duranto Express was required since “there is much traffic between Bangalore and Howrah,” the Minister said. He also said that separate non-stop trains would be launched shortly connecting New Delhi and Jammu Tawi, Lucknow, Howrah, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneshwar and Ernakulam.

Divisional Railway Manager, Bangalore Division, Akhil Agrawal said the service from Yeshwantpur to Anekal would start first and that to Devanahalli will be a bit later.
Earlier, Ananth Kumar called for utilising the existing rail network to provide services between Bangalore (City station) and Yeshwantpur, Bangalore and Yelahanka and Bangalore and Kengeri.

“The population will be touching one crore shortly and there is need for such infrastructure,” he added. He also called for setting up of a railway station every two km.

He also called for setting up of a bus terminus in front of the Yeshwantpur railway station for the convenience of passengers. “I will talk to the Chief Minister and ensure it is set up here,” he added.
