LAST LEG: More trees were cut to widen the stretch between Race Course Road and Shivananda Circle in Bangalore on Sunday.
BANGALORE: The last leg of widening of Race Course Road is now nearing completion with the felling of three big trees opposite the High Grounds Police Station here on Sunday. These three trees, over 30 years old, came down after nearly 150 trees made way for the widening of the 1.5-km stretch starting from Basaveshwara Circle.

A senior Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) official said that widening had almost been completed.

The work to widen Race Course Road had sparked several protests by environmental groups.

However, the BBMP went ahead with widening work. Now, the officials say that traffic has been decongested on the road.
