Cops yet to decide D-day for magic underpass
DH News Service,Bangalore:
The three-day magic underpass took 33 days for completion.

The three-day magic underpass took 33 days for completion. Asphaltation work at the underpass at Cauvery junction began on Sunday morning and is expected to be completed by Monday morning. However the traffic police are yet to decide on the date to allow traffic through the underpass.
BBMP Commissioner Dr S Subramanya said construction will be over by Monday morning. The Palike has not yet decided whether to allow traffic through the underpass before the formal inauguration. It will be decided in mutual consultation with the Traffic Department.
He said once the underpass is formally inaugurated, vehicles moving towards Mekhri Circle will have to turn turn at Cauvery Junction and take ‘U’ turn at the underpass to join Bellary Road.
Vehicles moving towards the City need not to stop at Cauvery junction. Those vehicles joining the Bellary Road from Bhashyam Circle will have to take the underpass route. The Palike will provide ‘U’ - turn for vehicles reaching Bhashyam Circle from Mekhri Circle at the median near Cauvery theatre.
Mad rush
Traffic ACP Eshwar Prasad said that the traffic can’t be allowed on the underpass at Cauvery junction unless vehicles from Mekhri Circle are shown a way to Bhashyam Circle.
If vehicles are allowed on the underpass at the present condition there would be a mad rush of vehicles at BDA junction. Once the work starts at BDA junction too theho traffic management will go haywire. “We don’t want to take the risk. The Palike has assured the Traffic Department that it will offer solution for the problem”, he said.
The Palike began the construction of the underpass on January 16. Then Palike Commissioner Dr S Subramanya had promised that the work would be completed in 72 hours (three days). However the magic did not work out, thanks to BWSSB water pipeline which was ruptured during excavation.
The commissioner came before the press to express his regrets for not completing the work as per his promise.
He said the Palike would need 10 more days. However even the second promise did not work out. Finally the work took 33 days for completion. According to sources in the Palike the underpass will be inaugurated by Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Wednesday.
