Bangalore: The countdown has begun for the inauguration of the underpass at Cauvery junction with the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike completing the first stage of asphalting work on Sunday night. The final stage of asphalting work will be completed by Monday morning, said Chief Engineer (Major Roads) K.S. Krishna Reddy.

Meanwhile, the BBMP has installed traffic signboards, including the direction: “Way to Airport” (indicating direction to new international airport), at the junction and at the entrance and exit of the underpass.

Official sources said the decision on opening the underpass for traffic would be decided on Monday afternoon.

Whether a formal inaugural ceremony will be held in the presence of Governor Rameshwar Thakur or will it be opened to the public without fanfare are the questions being debated, especially as the BBMP is keen to open the underpass at the earliest.
