BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP's) road-widening project has not only deprived the common man of his sleep, but is likely to cause problems for even the plush five-star hotels in the city.
Taj Residency on Bhaskaran Road (next to Trinity Circle), Taj West End on Race Course Road and The Park Hotel on MG Road are some of the hotels that are set to lose their trademark green cover or their well-utilised space.
"There was no traffic jam here, until the authorities made this a two-way road,” said Dadar Khan, an auto driver. He attacked the authorities for diverting traffic as and when they pleased. He said, “The road from the Gurudwara to Taj Residency was a one-way and only recently it was made a two-way road.
Pointing the markings on the Gurudwara, Selvam, a local resident of Ulsoor said the Gurudwara and other nearby properties have also been marked for road widening. The hotel next to the Gurudwara will be completely demolished, as the marking suggests that the road will be widened by about 10 meters or 30 feet.
Meanwhile, speaking to Express, a BBMP official said, “Since there has been opposition to the project, the authorities are deciding to review the project.”
He quoted the Mayor, the BBMP Commissioner and the state ministers as saying that there was no scientific planning due to which projects had faced so much opposition.
