Work on war memorial resumes
Bangalore, July 16, DHNS
With Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa instructing that work must resume at the Indira Gandhi Musical Fountain to construct the proposed war memorial, which was stalled for a brief while, construction workers took to the field obediently.
However, Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) officials maintained that they were yet to receive any official communication from the Government and that they were expecting the same over the weekend or latest by Monday
Meanwhile, the National Military Memorial Committee Chairman and Member of Parliment, Rajeev Chandrashekar, on Friday, hailed the Chief Minister’s move to revisit his decision on moving the war memorial to be built at the Indira Gandhi Musical Fountain and directing that work must resume at the same place.
In an official statement, Chandrashekar said: “On behalf of families of the veterans and the families of those who have sacrificed their lives in service of our nation, I welcome this announcement by the Government of Karnataka.”
He also said that the decision shows the Government’s commitment towards the promise it had made to the families of the martyrs in February last year, and that things are moving in the positive direction.
Further, on behalf of the members of the National Military Memorial Committee and the families of veterans, he conveyed gratitude to the citizens of Bangalore and other places for their support for the armed forces in general and the memorial in particular.
Chandrashekar called upon Bangaloreans to come out to the National Memorial Park on July and extend their support to the celebration of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
