No rock garden in Lalbagh: Katti

Horticulture Minister V Umesh Katti has said the government has no plans to develop a rock garden in Lalbagh. However, a musical fountain will be added only after consulting the public.


Replying to a question by Congress legislator N A Haris in the Legislative Assembly on Friday, the Minister said there are plans to add more greenery behind the the monolith rock in the botanical gardens and that the development will not damage the rock.

The Minister the following development works will be taken up Lalbagh spread across 240 acres: lake development, reconstruction of aquarium building and Krumbigal Hall, adding more toilets, rain shelters, water points besides adding more greenery.

In 2008, 18.76 lakh people visited Lalbagh and it went up to 20.16 lakh in 2009. The income in 2008 was Rs 1.87 crore, while it was Rs 20.7 crore in the next year.

In reply to Congress MLA Ramalinga Reddy’s question, Katti said the government was yet to decide on constructing a musical fountain at Lalbagh. The decision would be based on public opinion.
