BANGALORE: Mayor S K Nataraj said on Tuesday that the city corporation itself would oversee the allotment of advertisement hoardings.
He told presspersons that the decision was taken to prevent revenue loss the corporation had to bear due to illegal hoardings. “The BBMP will not allot advertisement hoardings through private agencies. We have decided to allot the hoardings to customers directly,” he said.
“We will make all efforts to improve the revenue of BBMP and remove the illegal hoardings in the city,” he added.
Earlier in the day Opposition Leader in the council, M Nagaraj, raised the issue in the council meeting. “There are 5,000 to 6,000 illegal hoardings in Bangalore city. The BBMP is losing Rs 150 crore to Rs 200 crore worth of revenue due to the illegal hoardings. A few BBMP officials are renewing the licence of hoardings without collecting the dues from their owners,” he said.
