BANGALORE: Rajeev Chandrashekar, Member of Parliament and convener of ABIDe, has written a letter to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa seeking swift action against those responsible for the veterinary college wall collapse that killed Sanjana Singh earlier this month.
Attributing such mistakes to the larger domain of contract-awarding methodology of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, the letter says the sub-standard work could prove hazardous for the city if the same methods were followed.
He said the ABIDe report on PlanBengaluru2020 (PB2020) would help in identifying such important matters to avoid such tragedies.
According to the PB2020 report, the contracting methodology of the Palike is “flawed and leaky”.
While stressing on the citizen and city interest, the report highlights the importance of quality and technical specifications in the contracting process.
It also states severe and binding performance, quality obligations from contractors and penalty clauses as important and stresses that all contracts should be multi-year with annuity payments from the city to improve city financing.
The PB2020 also seeks that each agency will create a work package and maintenance project and the work package could be of roads, water supply, sanitation or solid waste management.
