‘Lalbagh lacks proper maintenance’

‘Lalbagh lacks proper maintenance’
Bangalore, June 18, DHNS:

Calling for proper maintenance of the historical Lalbagh Botanical Gardens, educationist and MLC Prof M R Doreswamy on Friday rued the lack of facilities for visitors.

Addressing reporters, he said despite drawing the State government’s attention in the Council to improve essential infrastructure facilities at the 270-acre Lalbagh Gardens, little has been done. “If a visitor takes a stroll around the historical garden, the bad maintenance is there for all to see. It requires the urgent attention of the horticulture department,” Prof Doreswamy, who is also a member of the Lalbagh Walkers’ Association, said.

According to him, Lalbagh authorities owe it to the people to provide a good restroom or public toilet facility, apart from clean drinking water. He added that the Department should restore the deer park and aquarium in Lalbagh. “The building that once housed the aquarium is now in a dilapidated condition. There is a need to re-establish them.”Among the other suggestions were displaying name boards for rare species of old trees and opening food courts.
