BMTC buses offload passengers in the middle of the road, quite literally

It seems traffic rules don't apply to the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses anymore.

In a clear violation, they have taken to pulling over right in the middle of the busy Magrath Road to offload passengers.

With only a small yellow barrier that indicates this makeshift bus stop, it makes it extremely dangerous for passengers, who have to disembark in the midst of heavy traffic.

Sundra Raj (63), a resident of Neelsandra, who takes the Magrath route every day said, "This road is very unsafe, as there is not even a proper divider. It's extremely difficult to get off the bus."

Poovalagi (25), a homemaker, who also uses the same bus stop, complains, "I know it's not safe, but this is where they stop."

She added, "I have no choice, but to take the bus from here." This reporter spoke to bus driver, M A Mullah who takes this route. He said, "We don't know about the rules, this is just where we stop."

Praveen Sood, ACP (traffic) told MiD DAY, "Buses have to stop there because of the Metro construction. This is a situation that's been forced upon us."

He added, "Once the construction work is completed, all buses will be moved to the Trinity Circle area within a week's time."
