Announces Plans For Cubbon Park
TIMES NEWS NETWORK
Bangalore: A week after inspecting works at various lakes in the city, chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Friday took stock of Metro work at Byappanahalli depot area, six station areas and track works on M G Road. “We are on track. Reach-1 of Bangalore Metro will be ready by December 2010,” Yeddyurappa said.
“Work along the entire 7-km stretch of the project is now 75% complete. The lost boulevard of M G Road will also be restored,” he added. The CM also unveiled plans for a new project — which he called People Space — below the elevated Swami Vivekananda station in Ulsoor. This project will come up on the land which belongs to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC).
FACELIFT FOR CUBBON PARK
The chief minister also announced plans to develop Cubbon Park. A comprehensive development plan for the park is on the cards. “Next week, a detailed discussion with experts will be held to chart out a comprehensive development plan,’’ Yeddyurappa said.
His day-long Bangalore tour included a quick visit to the veterinary college campus in Hebbal, Karnataka Soaps and Detergent Ltd (KSDL) campus in Yeshwantpur and Mysore Lamps factory premises.
The CM announced a five-year plan to develop veterinary colleges at Bangalore, Bidar, Gadag, Hassan and Shimoga. “The 1,000 acre campus at Hesarghatta will be developed soon. The present KSDL campus will be renovated. The move is not about developing any particular campus, but my aim is to improve the standards,’’ he said.
Talking about the closed Mysore Lamps, he said: “Final decision is yet to be taken. It’s a valuable land. We cannot take any hasty decisions,’’ he added.
TRAFFIC HIT
CM’s Bangalore rounds brought traffic to a halt on Friday. Commuters, particularly in the East and North Bangalore, had a tough time when the CM’s inspection team in a Volvo hit the roads.
