Metro project derails life on C.M.H. Road, Indiranagar

Bangalore: The once bustling Chinmaya Mission Hospital (C.M.H) Road has been reduced to a shadow of itself, thanks to the slow pace of Namma Metro work.

Business on the stretch between 100-Foot Road junction and Indiranagar Double Road appears to have been hit hard by the project. For, the road has been blocked for a long time.

Shoppers take a detour through the narrow by-lanes to reach their destination.

No buses

It is the residents of the area who depend on public transport that are the worst hit. They have to trek quite a distance to board a bus.

“There was a time when buses from Jeevan Bimanagar, C.V. Raman Nagar and Vigyana Nagar used to pass through C.M.H Road. Now, we have to walk to Ulsoor or 80-foot road to board a bus,” said Pooja Prakash.

However, as work on some stretches of the metro rail is being completed, parts of Indiranagar are limping back to normalcy. The stretch between Lakshminagar and Ulsoor has been tarred again in time for it to act as an alternative route to Old Madras Road which has been under repair due to work by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). Lanes leading to Old Madras Road from C.M.H. Road, which were closed until recently, have been reopened, but not re-laid. A BMRCL official said this will be done as soon as the metro work is completed.
