Corporators refuse to take calls on bad supply, change cellphone numbers

Rohith BR. Bangalore

Peeved with constant queries on poor water supply in his ward, Congress corporator Govindaraju decided to move out from his house in Jnanabharathi to a 'peaceful' place. The harried corporator expressed his helplessness at a council meet called by Bangalore mayor SK Nataraj. But it seems even he doesn't have a solution.
"The Cauvery supply to my area is not regular. There is public outrage in my ward. I have even changed my mobile number and shifted my house because the water board isn't helping," he told Nataraj.
"Most of the borewells in my area are defunct and the lakes in the jurisdiction— one in Mallathahalli and another in Ullal— have completely dried up. The water board has stopped supplying water to my ward," he said.
Govindaraju is not alone. Corporators across the city are struggling with questions on the bad water supply in their wards, which seem to be increasing with every dry day. Prakash Nagara corporator Ravindra said that many residents in his area have vacated their houses because of the water crisis. "If we cannot ensure the residents of our wards proper water supply, how can we show them our faces," he said.
