WET RIDE: BOTH ORDINARY AND MARCOPOLO BUSES HAVE FAULTY ROOFS

open your umbrellas not only outdoors when it rains, but also on leaking BMTC buses, which have been leaving passengers wet and weary of late.
"Both ordinary and Marcopolo buses leak when the city gets some rain. Its pathetic. Although we pay high fares on these buses , we still get wet on board in a downpour," complains a passenger, Priya Naik.
Some commuters say they have not been spared the discomfort even on the more luxurious Volvo buses, claiming that they t leak as well.
, "I have been travelling on the Big-10 buses for the last year as they provide good connectivity and are avail able during peak hours. But over the last few days I have been avoiding them because they leak when it rains. It' s impossible to sit in the , crowded buses with water coming in from the roof," says a BMTC regular, Naren. dra Kumar, who warns that unless the BMTC improves the quality of its buses no amount of advertising will help it persuade more people to use public transport.

"It's unbelievable to see how poor public transporta tion really is despite crores having been spent on buying new buses and introducing new routes in the city.
Not only do we have to put up with leaking buses but also peeling paint on some of them," says another fed up commuter, Krishna Mohan. BMTC officers, however claim that none of their Volvo buses are leak ing. "We wash the buses everyday and would know if they were leaking. But we will check the other buses and do the repairs," says a senior BMTC officer.
