Bangalore, May 18, DHNS

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) would soon begin preparatory work to construct an alternative diversion road on the High Court side of Dr B R Ambedkar Veedhi.

BMRCL has completed construction of the road on the Vidhana Soudha side of Ambedkar Veedhi. Sources in the BMRCL said the order of the High Court is awaited. “Chief Secretary S V Ranganath has submitted the report to the High Court. Its findings are being studied and a decision should be out soon,” sources said.

The sources added the report is said to have given a clearance for going ahead with the construction of the diversion road and Metro work by BMRCL.

“One of the committee members has suggested that the Vidhana Soudha underground station be shifted further away, below M S Buildings, which houses various State government offices. A final version on this expected any time soon,” added sources.

Work at the Ambedkar Veedhi would entail felling of 196 trees in and around Cubbon Park. The BMRCL has also conducted tests of underground rock bed at the retaining wall of the Central College campus to collect additional data, before proceeding on the next course of action.
