CM proposes local train for City

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said on Tuesday that the State government is planning to submit a proposal to Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee for a project on local train to combat traffic congestion in the City.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Road Over Bridge (ROB), constructed by the BBMP and the Railways at a cost of Rs 16.5 crore at Wheeler Road here. The project was completed after three years of delay.

Yeddyurappa said the State government is ready to chip in 50 per cent of the total cost of the project and also to allot the land required for the project. He said that Union Minister for State for Railways K H Muniyappa has been supportive of the proposal. The CM has written a letter to the Union Railway minister in this regard.

Yeddyurappa said railway lines in Ramanagara, Doddaballapur, K R Puram, Whitefield and Yelahanka are already functioning and the existing railway lines could be doubled.
BJP MP Ananth Kumar suggested that the existing railway lines could be doubled and extended to suburban areas too.

“Installation of automated signal facility and stations at an interval of two kilometers would clear traffic congestion,” he said. He urged Muniyappa to discuss the local train issue in the forthcoming session in Lok Sabha.

Akrama Sakrama
The Government has also been planning to address the traffic woes by utilising the funds generated from schemes such as Akrama Sakrama which would fetch about Rs 10,000 crore, the Chief Minister said.

He said the long pending Akrama Sakrama scheme would be finalised in the present session. He said the State is likely to raise at least Rs 10,000 crore revenue over the next two years.

The revenue generated would be allotted for infrastructure development like multi-level car parking, signal-free corridors and asphalting of roads in the City. Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has been updating the data base on properties through Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping.

Union Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa said all unmanned railway level crossings would be tackled to bring down the accident rates in the City. He said when he was the minister of State for Road Transport, the the project on extension of elevated roads to prevent entry of vehicles from other states into the City was approved. “The State needs to set aside about Rs 2,000 crore to construct a flyover from KR Puram to Yeswantpura and for the extension of flyover from Electronic City to Hebbal,” Muniyappa added.

RUBs
As many as 11 Road-Under-Bridges (RUBs) have been planned at a cost of Rs 220 crore at RPC Layout, Bapujinagar, between Sampige Road Cross and Anjaneya Temple at Srirampura, Kodigehalli, Cable-stayed bridge at KR Puram, Kasturinagar, Food Corporation of India (FCI) at KR Puram, for light motor vehicles movement at Bangalore-Mysore railway track near Kengeri, Malleswaram 11th Cross, Allalasandra and Lingarajapura.
