Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) does not know where Kensington Town and Ulsoor are located.

Strange? True.

For the last four months, BBMP is trying to find where the two landmark areas of Bangalore are located. In its desperate quest, BBMP has dispatched letters to Executive Engineers of East, West and South Zones and the Planning Department.

BBMP’s exploratory effort began when Kalidas Reddy, a native of Kallahalli, sought information under the Right To Information (RTI) Act on October 12, 2009 about the status of the renovation work carried out in Kensington Town swimming pool.

A month of filing the application, when he could not get the information, he lodged a complaint with the Karnataka Information Commission.

He received a letter from BBMP stating that letters had been dispatched to the EE of three zones and the planning department to give the desired information. Reddy says this is yet another attempt of BBMP to escape giving information.

The Kensington Town Swimming pool, which was one of the very few swimming pools of international standard in the City, was closed for the last several months because of renovation works. A girl who was practising in the pool has been selected to take part in the forthcoming Commonwealth Games at Delhi had been affected badly due to the prolonged renovation work.
