BANGALORE: The residents of JP Nagar have to put up with the mess created by work on an underpass for some more time, as a deadline has been set for the completion of the project for the third time.
The deadline for the JP Nagar underpass was set for January 15, 2010 by Transport Minister R Ashok when he had inspected the project a couple of months ago. But more than 40 pc of the work on the underpass connecting Kanakapura and Bannerghatta is pending. There are ‘to-let’ boards almost everywhere, with people and institutions vacating this area.
“With ministers visiting for inspection, there was some hope that the work would complete soon but with the recent update from the contractor, a new deadline is set which means there is no end to our daily mess,” said Meundi, Bangalore South Residents Welfare Association.
A contractor at the spot told Express there is time till March 31. Majority of the work is done and the rest will take couple of months’ time, he added.
Connectivity is lost and heaps of mud on roadsides prevent vehicles from entering. Despite cooperation from local leaders, the status of the work has not improved, Meundi said.
A BBMP official said work was delayed due to confusion over sublease of the contract. The project was started in May, 2008 at a cost of Rs 23 crore.
