Come March, local trains will chug across suburbs

Yeshwantpur-Devanahalli and City-Anekal services will be introduced in the first phase

Bangaloreans need not rue that it may be a while before Namma Metro becomes truly theirs. Come March, Indian Railways will be running train services between various suburbs using its existing infrastructure to mitigate the traffic woes of the city.
Union minister of state for railways, KH Muniyappa, on Sunday announced that Bangalore would soon be provided with a suburban train connectivity system. To start with, trains would run on the existing tracks between Bangalore city and Anekal and Yeshwantpur and Devanahalli from March.
Muniyappa disclosed this while speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Yeshwantpur-Howrah Duronto express in Yeshwantpur railway station.
He said that the suburban train services would be extended to link the railway stations at Bangalore city, Anekal, Yelahanka, Yeshwantpur, KR Puram, Kengeri and Devanahalli in the beginning. They would be further extended to include other stations like Banaswadi, Whitefield and Malleswaram.
These services would soon be augmented by a circular train service for which a survey is being conducted. He said he has also taken up the issue with senior minister, Mamata Banerjee.
Talking about the dense fog disrupting transport network in North India, Muniyappa said a detailed feasibility report was being prepared on how to tackle fog. "The report will help us make guidelines in a scientific manner. It will come out with accurate parameters to be followed in calculating factors like speed, distance and visibility during the fog season,"
