Civic agencies pulling in different directions City ballot problems

Hapless residents cope with dug up roads

Pathetic condition: Lack of co-ordination among utility agencies has created a mess on Sanjaynagar Main Road.
BANGALORE: Residents of eight wards of Hebbal Assembly Constituency may have received much attention from the authorities as the segment is represented by Minister for Information Technology and Biotechnology Katta Subramanya Naidu, who is also Bangalore City (north) in-charge Minister.

But the residents of Sanjaynagar, Kanakanagar, Chamundinagar and RMV Stage II are seething with rage as the roads are dug up and mounds of debris are left behind.

Many stretches of recently asphalted roads in the area have been dug up by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) for laying a water pipeline. Although development works have been taken up in the constituency, lack of co-ordination among utility agencies has created a mess.

Pedestrians as well as motorists have a tough time finding their way through the mounds of debris lying along the dug up roads.

Some senior officials of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) said that the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) had taken up special roadworks in Hebbal and Padmanabhanagar Assembly constituencies. The roadwork could have been taken up later if only the BWSSB had informed them about its plans. The roads in Kempanna Layout, the area in front of the ISRO office, R.T. Nagar Main Road, and Cholanayakana Halli were damaged, he said.

Radhakrishna Temple, Sanjaynagar, Gangenahalli, Ganganagar, Hebbal, Vishwanatha Nagenahalli, Manorayanapalya and Jayachamarajendra Nagar wards, which are part of Hebbal Assembly segment, have large pockets of rural and neglected areas. Shakti Nagar, Guddada Halli, Visvanatha Nagenahalli, Geddalahalli and Bhuvaneswari slums that are spread across these wards are an eyesore amidst posh localities that house palatial buildings.

But even the well-developed pockets such as Dollars Colony and Bhadrappa Layout are not spared of rain-related problems.

The absence of storm water drains results in flooding of roads.

That the residences of influential politicians, senior government officials, judges and other reputed personalities are located along these roads has not helped matters.
