Banners, flexes banned near Soudha

BANGALORE: The government has banned erecting any banners or flexes within a one km radius of Vidhana Soudha.
The ban will come into effect from Tuesday itself.
A decision in this effect was taken at a meeting of senior officials chaired by the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sureshkumar.
Except for government functions, putting up of banners and flexes of any sort will be banned.
Even banners for government functions should be erected and removed within 24 hours.
BBMP joint commissioner who is in-charge of the advertisement section has been entrusted with the job of enforcing the ban and he would be held responsible if anybody is found violating the ban.
Sureshkumar said that a meeting of city MLAs will soon be called to seek their cooperation. He said that he has already written to the presidents of all political parties and various associations including the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike to cooperate.
He said that the government was seriously mulling controlling the indiscriminate erection of banners and flexes in the city.
He said that efforts were on to evolve a system where banners and flexes would be allowed only in selected places after collecting nominal fees.
