Side-stepping the political ramifications of the situation, the working team of ABIDe with independent MP Rajiv Chandrashekar as convener said that they are placing before Bangloreans a “blueprint” for their city.
The key categories in the document are listed as follows: Governance; Road, traffic management and transportation; Heritage, environment and lakes; Water, waste management, sanitation and health; Urban poor; Education; Power; Airports and Railway Stations; Economy; Housing; Tourism; Environment and Sustainability and secure Bangalore.
“It is a plan for a transparent, citizen-centric Bangalore where public services are the right of every citizen,” Rajiv Chandrashekar said at a joint press briefing with his team which also included former chief secretary and the advisor to the chief minister on urban affairs, Dr A Ravindra.
A parallel development in terms of strengthening the executive leadership also figures in the list.
The recommendation is for a directly elected mayor or a mayor in council with a fiveyear- term, the MP said.
The document speaks of specific issues or problems, the ABIDe team said and added that people can pick a specific issue and seek to know from the aspiring candidates if he or she has a solution to the problem.
Abide has plans to follow-up the document with annual report cards.
Each issue will be assessed on the progress made in terms of the blueprint, it is said.
Earlier in the day Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa assured the ABIDe team that his government would “study” the document and “sincerely try” to implement it.
