Dec. 15: After Monday’s chaos on the Richmond Road flyover, the city police did some brain storming on the changes it has brought in by removing the signal that was placed on it and also held discussions with BMTC and KSRTC officials on Tuesday, but did not seem inclined to go back to things as they were.
While admitting that there were some hitches on Monday as a result of the modifications on the flyover and changed routes, additional commissioner of police (traffic) Praveen Sood maintained traffic was smoother Tuesday morning.
“I admit traffic was slow during the peak hours on Monday here. But 30 per cent of the disruption was because it was the first day of the week. There was also some confusion as most motorists who climbed up the two-way ramp to go to Mission Road ended up on Double Road. Plus, they could use only one side of Siddaiah Road, Wilson Garden stretch due to BWSSB work in progress on the other. We have requested the BWSSB to expedite the work and two-way traffic will be resumed in a week,” Mr Sood said.
But he mostly blamed the KSRTC and BMTC buses for the chaos. “KSRTC buses heading towards Tamil Nadu enter the Shantinagar bus stand one after the other even during peak hours. We need to set up separate entry and exit points for them. Also, we need to regulate the movement of buses into the five depots in the area. I have issued directions to officials not to allow private buses to park on Siddaiah Road and there will be no parking on Double Road as well,’’ Mr Sood added.
